Medica – November 2016
For the third year in a row, HPC Healthline is heading to Düsseldorf for Medica.
Falling between 14 to 17 November, the World Forum for Medicine promises to be bigger than ever, with thousands of specialist organisations showing off their latest product and service developments. The conference boasts a full schedule of presentations, discussing topics as diverse as military medicine, sports physiotherapy and the most innovative medical apps.
HPC Healthline's sales reps will be in centre of the fray: installed in Hall 6 at Stand E41. On your visit, not only will you receive our warmest welcome and piping hot tea or coffee, but also updates on our latest developments of the SafeDon™ 'cuff first' dispensing system for gloves and aprons.
We are also excited to unveil our brand new surgical pulp range: Safetex.
Approved for use in the theatre, these utensils are unique. Despite being single use, they can be autoclaved and disposed of through maceration and traditional disposal methods. By contrast, single use plastic trays cannot be autoclaved.
Despite being fully biodegradable and compostable, Safetex surgical utensils do not compromise on safety or performance for the sake of the environment. Our trays have been independently tested by a third party for suitability in the surgical environment for all key hygiene and safety standards. The trays met or surpassed all critical performance parameters.
Safetex Surgical are coated with a proprietary (patent pending) compound that makes them impervious to alcohol and spirits. This is unlike other biodegradable paper-based trays and utensils.
In today's market, nearly all trays and utensils made from pulp and paper derivatives are unsuitable for hygiene stands of the clinical procedure environment and particularly the operating theatre. However, Safetex Surgical has been dveloped specifically for use as a safe, high hygiene alternative to plastic and metal trays.
The above electron microscope images show the surfaces of a tray made from recycled newspaper and a Safetex Surgical tray. The recycled newspaper image shows loose, inconsistent fibres and particles that will cause linting and dusting. The Safetex Surgical tray is made from a weave of virgin fibres that are longer, more consistent and without particulate interspersed between them.

Achieving our new ISO 50001 energy efficiency standard
It's now a legal requirement for all UK companies to have an energy management plan.
Not willing simply to tick a box, we at HPC Healthline decided to go one step further and strive for ISO 50001 acreditation from BSI. This is because we truly believe that we can become more efficient in terms of our energy consumption.
Steve McCarthy – our Group Logistics & Regulatory Affairs Manager in Bourne, Lincolnshire – headed up the initiative:
"The testing was rigorous but forced us to put in place true energy benchmarking measures to be reviewed on a regular basis. Some early practical steps were simple:
– adding daylight saving devices in our warehouse
– using more efficient charging modules for the forklifts
– turning off lights when warehouse sections were not in use
– ensuring that our transport vehicles are more economical, running on diesel with drivers trained to be more fuel efficient."
After careful analysis, the team also recognised that HPC Healthline's logistics can make ensure better load planning, going from a piece-meal delivery pattern to aggregating shipments and creating fuller loads. Steve said:
"Originally, the goal was to reduce the organisation's overall energy usage by 8%, but after building a second warehouse at our Bourne facility, we sought to run at the same energy levels across both units, which we have achieved.
"We also have a goal to use 2% less diesel and are on track to do so in 2016. Additionally, we now measure kilowatt hours per pallet handled. Running at almost double the efficiency, we now handle each pallet at 1.3 kWhs whereas before we ran at 2.5 kWhs."
With the standard and its monitoring now in place, we and consequently our customers can look forward to a far more streamlined and efficient logistics, keeping the impact of rising energy costs to a minimum in our prices – all in the knowledge that we are doing our part to help the environment.
ISO 50001 is an International Standard that encourages the latest best practice in energy management. Energy experts from over 60 countries colluded to establish its parameters. The standard describes an energy management system which any organisation can develop and implement a policy, creating energy reduction goals.
Expo Protection 2016
Final preparations are underway for the three-day ExpoProtection exhibition, from 7 to 9 November. Find us at stand N112.
This year we're doubly excited to head to Paris because the exhibition presents the first opportunity since our merger for us to show off BM Polyco's reusable glove range alongside our disposable counterparts.
In terms of HPC's products, we will be championing our disposable nitrile gloves, like GN90 and GN91, along with protective and hygienic workwear, ideally suited to an industrial and chemical environment. This includes coveralls, masks and headwear.
Polyco's industry-leading and bestselling creations will also be on show, including their newest releases like Grip It® MAX and Grip It® Oil C5. Made of an injection-moulded thermoplastic elastomer, Grip it MAX features a specially designed palm and finger tread, offering best-in-class grip to the user – whether they be scaffolders, roofers, or even hardcore obstacle racers.
ExpoProtection brings together companies dedicated to preventing occupational, natural and industrial risks. With 690 exhibitors showcasing their latest innovations, the event offers a chance to meet current and new customers and collaborators. Just don't forget your business cards.
About ExpoProtection, Area Sales Manager, Eva Resendiz said:
'The exhibition's Parisian location is hugely attractive , providing a hub to which many of my safety-at-work customers will travel. The three days offer a rare opportunity not only to meet new potential clients, but also to socialise with them. Finally, with Polyco on board, we can present a wider product range at the forefront of innovation to the reusable PPE industrial market.'

IPS Infection Prevention Exhibition 2016
From Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 September, HPC Healthline will be exhibiting at IPS' annual conference in Harrogate. Aimed at medical infection prevention professionals, the three-day event at Harrogate International Centre provides an invaluable chance for nurses and staff to learn more about HPC Healthline's gloves, pulp and workwear.
"Each year the IPS conference offers a unique opportunity for us to meet industry professionals, and old and new customers under one roof. Together as product innovators and product users, it's great to be able to share ideas and possible solutions in an industry so focused on and well educated in infection prevention."
– Michael Knight, HPC Healthline Area Sales Manager
Last year, over 800 delegates attended the conference and this year promises to be even bigger. This is because IPS aims to:
Lead, shape and inform the infection prevention agenda at an international level
Influence and promote the evidence base for a universally adopted infection prevention practice
Be the organisation of choice for all involved in infection prevention to sustain improvements in practice.
With its cutting edge innovation within the infection prevention industry, HPC Healthline will be a key exhibitor at this year's conference. Bringing our latest developments in examination gloves and pulp, we will be showcasing how customers using our products will be thoroughly equipped within the healthcare workplace to combat contamination and fight against the spread of HAIs.
Particularly, we are passionate about returning the everyday examination glove to its original role as a highly effective infection control device. Through our SafeDon® range of exam gloves, aprons and accompanying dispensing solutions, we do just that. And although the most technologically advanced products are commonly the most expensive, SafeDon bucks this trend thanks to its economical and waste-reducing packaging.
A large part of infection prevention also takes place in the sluice room. Samples of our pulp products will be available for conference delegates to handle, including our detergent proof washbowl, which is 30% stronger than other washbowls available on the market. And its unique soap proof agent ensures that it doesn't leak and removes the need to double bowl.
We also offer accompanying accessories, such as racks and dispensing stands on wheels to help users meet CQC guidelines. These allow hospitals to be more flexible: avoiding expensive wall mounting charges and allowing improved access in tight sluice rooms.
If you're attending the conference, we encourage you to visit Stand 54a, sample our products, meet our team and enter our Twitter competition.
HPC Healthline at Surrey Super Growth Awards
On a sunny Friday morning at Weybridge's Mercedez-Benz World, representatives from 60 Surrey-based companies gathered for the first Surrey Super Growth Awards Breakfast.
Hosted by asb law and sponsored by Lloyds Bank and RSM, the event celebrated the fastest growing Surrey companies over three years, with an annual turnover of more than £2 million.
Among the esteemed attendees, HPC Healthline's David Greenwood and Valerie Geraud donned name badges, networked, and received our framed finalist's certificate – a more permanent accolade in place of the Denbies sparkling wine we already received.
Dr Malcolm Parry OBE from The Surrey Research Park and Chris White from Denbies Wine Estate both gave keynote addresses to encourage the attendees to continue bucking the trend and staying profitable despite an unstable economic climate.
Senior Partner at asb law, Russell Bell, said: "Achieving and sustaining growth is not easy, particularly in a sluggish economic environment.
That is why we are passionate about launching the Surrey Super Growth awards to recognise the businesses that are doing exactly that.”
Congratulations to all the finalists, hats off to The Gym Limited who won the award overall, and thanks to asb law for a fantastic event.
Finalists for the Surrey Super Growth Awards
We are excited to be among the 60 companies shortlisted for the Surrey Super Growth Awards.
Along with our complimentary bottle of Denbies' bubbly, we have received an invitation to attend the awards at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge on 1 July 2016.
The Surrey Super Growth Awards, in collaboration with RSM and Lloyds Bank, celebrate the best performing companies, who create wealth and jobs throughout Surrey.
